- RSC Publishing announces beta launch of online publications platform powered by Mark Logic. Software solutions provider Mark Logic Corporation, US, has announced that scientific publisher RSC Publishing has launched a new beta publications platform built on MarkLogic Server. For the first time, more than 165 years of Royal Society of Chemistry (RSC) content will now be searchable and accessible to the chemical science research community through a single search interface. - Springer to publish Korean Society of Nuclear Medicine journal. STM publisher Springer, Germany, has announced the addition of the journal Nuclear Medicine and Molecular Imaging to its journals publishing programme. Springer will publish the journal on behalf of the Korean Society of Nuclear Medicine, which has been the publisher of the journal since 1967. Dr. June-Key Chung from the Seoul National University College of Medicine will serve as editor-in-chief. He will be supported by an international editorial board. Read more »
- Baker & Taylor to offer Elsevier content on e-reader software Blio. Baker & Taylor, Inc., a US-based distributor of physical and digital books, has announced an agreement with STM publisher Elsevier to provide highly-formatted content on Blio. - Thomson Reuters study examines research scenario in Australia and New Zealand. Information services provider Thomson Reuters, US, has released a study examining research trends in Australia and New Zealand. The study shows broadening international collaboration in the research of Australia and, to a lesser degree, New Zealand, over the past 10 years. The US continues to be the biggest contributor to Australian and New Zealand publications, but of special interest is a sizeable increase of Australia's collaboration with China. Read more »
- Editor may have to quit as Elsevier looks to introduce peer-review for journal 'Medical Hypotheses'. STM publisher Elsevier has reportedly asked the editor-in-chief of the journal Medical Hypotheses to immediately step down or implement a series of changes in his editorial policy, including introducing a system of peer-review. Medical Hypotheses is currently the only Elsevier journal that does not have a system of peer-review. The editor-in-chief decides what gets published, and the manuscripts are edited only very lightly, according to media reports. Read more »
- Nina V. Fedoroff named president-elect of AAAS. The American Association for the Advancement of Science (AAAS) has elected Nina V. Fedoroff, science and technology adviser to the US Secretary of State and the US Agency for International Development, as AAAS president in 2011. Fedoroff, a geneticist and molecular biologist, is a pioneering researcher in the fields of plant genetics, plant responses to environmental stress, and genetically modified crops. Read more »

Scientific publisher CRC Press, US, part of the Taylor & Francis Group, has announced a partnership with publishing software provider Atypon to launch CRCnetBASE 2.0. - Nature launches Nature Asia-Pacific Publishing Index. - Elsevier journal to host Cellular Host-Pathogen Interactions conference. STM publisher Elsevier, Netherlands, has announced that its journal Current Opinion in Cell Biology will host a Cellular Host-Pathogen Interactions Conference, in Amsterdam, from September 5-7, 2010. STM publisher Springer, Germany, has announced that it will publish the European Journal of Drug Metabolism and Pharmacokinetics, starting in 2010. Cambridge Journals, a division of Cambridge University Press (CUP), US, has completed the 2009 Collection of its Digital Archives, adding to over a century of digitised research material. - Springer adds journal with 150-year tradition to social sciences portfolio. STM publisher Springer, Germany, has announced a partnership with the Anthropological Society of Paris to publish the latter's scientific journal Bulletins et mémoires de la Société d'Anthropologie de Paris. The journal claims to be the oldest journal on biological anthropology. It has been published by the society itself since 1859, when it was launched parallel to the founding of the Anthropological Society of Paris. Read more »

- Reed Construction Data amends lawsuit against McGraw-Hill Construction Dodge. Construction information provider Reed Construction Data (RCD), US, a wholly-owned subsidiary of Reed Elsevier, has amended a suit in federal court against McGraw-Hill Construction Dodge, a unit of The McGraw-Hill Companies, Inc. The amended complaint raises new charges that Dodge unlawfully misappropriated RCD's confidential and trade secret information regarding specific construction projects and used that information to populate its own project database.
